Foods That Improve Your Energy Levels
If you experience low energy levels throughout the day then it could be because of your diet. A diet that’s high in refined carbohydrates and sugars could cause you to feel drained.
The key is to understand the glycaemic index. The glycaemic index (GI) is a ranking of foods based on their effects on our blood sugar levels. Foods are given a ranking between 1 and 100 depending on how quickly they release their sugars into out blood. Refined carbohydrates and sugars have a high GI. This means that they release their energy quickly. This means that after eating these types of foods, we experience an energy spike, followed by a period of low energy.
Low GI foods release their energy slowly, which means that they can give us more consistent energy levels. To try and improve your energy levels, you should cut out the high GI foods and replace them with low GI foods.
Examples of low GI foods include apples, peanuts, beans, yogurt, chia seeds, cherries, bran, linseed and more.
